What is a Christian?

What is a Christian? All of us have different thoughts that spring to mind.  Some cultures would say that a Christian is a white privileged colonist who forces you to act, walk and talk just like them.  Others… Read More

Us and Them!

When we feel uncomfortable or out of our depth, we take sides.   Us and Them.  This is a natural human response to nearly every situation.  In the school ground, in the community and across the globe.  What we don’t understand we mistrust, we push back or cut off. A democratic society is built upon the premise that everyone is equal.  It only works if we can all live together.  If we cannot live together we need to be able to at least live side by side. When we become fearful we chose the safety of our own segregated groups.  We must remember that we are global citizens.  We must elevate community over economic freedom.

Are You Living on the Edge?

We are not meant to live like rats in the wheel. We run busily around on our tread mills, spinning out day after day. We are to live in Shalom, Shalom is: contentment, community, health, reconciliation, peace, well-being, justice, wholeness, integrity. Shalom is the way that things should be or ought to be.

What is Peace?

Peace intercedes, it negotiates and it reconciles conflict in every arena. Peace is the desire for us all to get along. Peace is freedom from disturbance, it is emotional calm. Peace is tranquility. In the Hebrew context, Shalom is thought of in relationship to the land, the soil and Gods creation. It is the opposite to no conflict. It is what is happening when there is no conflict. Shalom is when the eco system, the land and life is the way that it should be. It is when everything is flourishing, when everything is working the way that it should be.

Generous Creativity

Creativity helps us to navigate anxiety. The fullness of the love that the creator has for us steadies us. Jesus does not desire an anxious life for us. He wants our lives to look like a well watered garden. He wants us to experience Shalom which means peace and flourishing. Space and time to flourish. Shalom is the way that things ‘ought’ to be.

Tuesday Talks: With Ken Wytsma

Shalom is much more than peace. In the Hebrew context, Shalom is thought of in relationship to the land, the soil and Gods creation. It is the opposite to no conflict. Shalom is when the eco system, the land and life is the way that it should be. It is when everything is flourishing, when everything is working the way that is should be.

The Heavens Declare Hope

There is a new world and it has already begun. It works through healing and forgiveness and fresh starts and peace and hope. It brings hope through beauty and life and flourishing. There is good news of freedom and justice and beauty and life. Those who follow Christ should be the bearers of this good news to all people, creatures, creation, cultures and every place that they encounter.
