A Short Meditation in Nature-Sounds of Water Flowing-Birdsong-Relaxation-by Johnnie Lawson
We have been talking about meditation for a year now. I live opposite a river so every night I go to sleep to the sound of the water running over the rocks, the occasional offended honk of a duck, and every now and again a loud car.
Many of you however are not near running water, unless someone left the tap on in the bath. So I thought that I would upload this video for you to play.
For some you can use it whilst you are meditating, using one of the many exercises we have done on Sunday Everyday. For those who find it hard to sleep, try running this for a few nights and see if it makes a difference for you. This runs for 8 hours so you will have plenty of time
Constant white noise, like running water can also help you study and focus. Scientists have proven that the sound of running water, whether it be the waves on the beach, a creek or a river, are soothing to our brains and can help us relax and sleep. It’s because the brain recognises threat, especially loud noises and the sounds of water register as calming and peaceful.
“These slow, whooshing noises are the sounds of non-threats, which is why they work to calm people,” said Orfeu Buxton, an associate professor of biobehavioral health at Pennsylvania State University. “It’s like they’re saying: ‘Don’t worry, don’t worry, don’t worry.'” (Reference).
“He who believes in Me, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'” But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive;
“but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
